A Heritage of Service and Success - On The Park
On May 2, 1963, the Inn on the Park was opened by the Four Seasons Hotels Inc. under Chairman Isadore Sharp. Although it was the second for the chain, (after the Four Seasons Motor Hotel on Jarvis St.,) it was the one that signaled that Four Seasons would become one of the world's premier luxury hotel businesses.
From the beginning it was an overwhelming success, overlooking beautiful park setting and counting among it's famous guests, The Queen Mother, The Queen, Rolling Stones, Nikita Kruschev, Guns and Roses, Henry Winkler and Glen Gould, to name just a few. In 1996 it was sold to a Vancouver businessman but was not able to recapture it's former glory and gradually slipped into disrepair.
In October 2004, it was purchased by Bryan Rowntree's holding company, Rowbry Holdings Limited. Bryan began the huge task of redeveloping the property in several phases. First, the oldest part of the hotel was demolished and in it's place, two car dealerships were built at the front of the property facing the hill to Eglinton Ave. "Lexus On The Park" (formerly Scarborough Lexus) and "Toyota on the Park" (formerly Yonge Lawrence Toyota) opened in early 2009.
Next, the events and meeting rooms were totally renovated, including an all new kitchen boasting the latest and best in commercial kitchen equipment and facilities. "On the Park Events and Conference Centre" now operates the Oak Room, Trillium Room, Harvest Room, Seasons Room, Terrace Lounge, and the beautifully restored, 10,000 sq. ft. Centennial Ballroom and foyer.
A 24-story tower containing 269 hotel rooms is currently under construction. The distinctive six-sided tower is being completely renovated to create 128 adult lifestyle rental residences for seniors to be know as " Residences On The Park".
Although the original hotel is no longer there, On The Park was created in the spirit of service and success for which the Inn On The Park was known. Toyota On The Park is proud to be a part of that exalted tradition.
