Buying Your First New Car
Chances are your first car wasn't shiny and new. First cars are often previously owned or hand-me-downs. But now, it's time to reward all your hard work and determination with a reliable, affordable and fun to drive NEW car.
For over 40 years, we've helped Canadians drive home in Toyota vehicles - earning a reputation for quality, durability and reliability. When you're ready for Your First New Car, we can help you consider all of your options and find the Toyota that suits you best.
To begin, here are a few of the things that you may not have considered:
What type of driving do you do?
Depending on where you do most of your driving, you may have specific requirements. If you spend a lot of time on the highway then bolstered, adjustable seats and ride comfort may be a crucial requirement. If you like the road less travelled and everything the Canadian seasons can throw at us, you may want AWD or 4WD for advanced traction control. Driving mostly on city streets, you may want easy manoeuvrability and excellent fuel efficiency.
What safety features are important to you?
Whether it's just you and friends, or you and your family - including kids and a couple of pets - you'll need to transport them safely and securely. Plus, if your vacation plans include lots of luggage, or travelling with a trailer, you may need above average cargo capacity, flexible seating or towing capacity and a trailer hitch.
What (or who) will you be bringing with you?
In addition to several Airbags (6 to 10 depending on the model), every new Toyota comes with the Toyota Safety Sence™. If you're a new driver or are building your confidence, advanced safety features like a Backup Camera or Lane Departure Alert may heighten your confidence. And parents will appreciate child safety equipment like Child Locks and Child Seat Tethers.
Where will your vehicle be parked?
Everyone's situation is different. If you live in an apartment, you may have to deal with underground parking - low clearance & tight spaces make interesting parking obstacles. If you have on-street parking at home or at work, you may want folding mirrors. If you're parking in a garage - will your vehicle fit? Is it long enough to fit the Tundra with the long box? Is it wide enough to park and get out of the vehicle?
Would a Hybrid vehicle be a good option?
Toyota's Hybrid lineup includes the Prius Family - the Prius, Prius c, Prius v and Prius Plug-in, plus Hybrid versions of the popular Camry and the Highlander.
When you've considered what vehicle features are most important- we can help you find the Toyota that meets your needs.
The Choice is Yours
When you choose a NEW Toyota, you'll get precisely want you want - from the Exterior colours and Interior fabrics to any options required to equip exactly the Toyota you need. You'll also get the latest features - from the latest Technology and Convenience features to the most up-to-date Safety Equipment
We've got you covered
Included with each new Toyota is comprehensive coverage that gives you peace of mind, knowing that you're protected in the case of a mechanical defect. Our Basic New Vehicle Warranty and Roadside Assistance are in effect for the first 3 years or 60,000km. Powertrain coverage is 5 years or 100,000km and Hybrid and Major Emission Component Coverage is even longer. Plus, we offer enhanced coverage with our Gold and Platinum Extra Care Protection packages.
Yes, a new Toyota often means regular car payments, but when you can Lease or Finance over your preferred term and select Monthly or Semi-Monthly (Lease)/ Bi-Weekly (Finance) payments, a new vehicle may be more affordable than you expect - and easier to plan for than a major car repair.
Now that you've got an idea of the vehicle you're interested in, and a budget that you can manage, you're ready to start doing some serious shopping for Your First New Car. Most shoppers will browse and compare online and even consult 3rd party reviews, before visiting a dealership. We want you to be as informed as possible, so we have many of the tools you'll need, accessible right here on Toyota.ca.
Time to Make a Trade
Do you currently own a vehicle? If you're considering using it as a trade-in, to help lower the payments on your new car, you can get an estimate of its trade-in value using our appraisal tool - provided by Canadian Black Book. Remember, this is just an estimate. When you visit a Toyota Dealer, they'll evaluate the condition of your trade-in and provide you with a trade-in value.
You've likely already seen our showroom, to determine whether or not a new car is a suitable option - but have you checked out all of the Special Offers available?
National Promotions - each month, we publish a number of special offers and incentives on certain Toyota vehicles. These might include Customer Incentives, Low Lease or Finance Rates - even 0% for some models - and Incentives for Cash purchases. These may enable you to get more value than you expected from Your First New Car. Read more.
Tire Rebates - In many parts of this beautiful country, you'll want to (or be legally required to) equip your vehicle with 4 Winter Tires during the winter months. When you purchase Your First New Car, you may purchase your Winter Tires (and Steel Rims) with your vehicle and the purchase price can be financed with the vehicle price. You'll be equipped for the season - and you may be able to take advantage of special rebates offered by our preferred Tire Manufacturers. Shop Tires
3rd Party Comparisons
There's a lot of choice out there and it can be tough doing an "apples-to-apples" when it comes to new cars. You'll want to see how Toyota vehicles stack up against competitive models to make sure you're making the best choice. Well, you don't have to go any further! Through an unbiased 3rd Party, toyota.ca provides comparisons of every Toyota model with its most popular competitors.
When you're ready to take the next step, you can submit a request for a credit pre-approval. Our finance team will review your application and provide a response, usually within 48 hours. When you've been approved, you can start working with a sales person to find the exact Toyota that you'd like to take home.

Get in touch to request a test drive! Time to take Your First New Car for a spin! There's nothing quite like getting behind the wheel to convince you that you're making the best choice.
When you get to the dealership, a Product Advisor will greet you. If you've booked a Test Drive appointment in advance, they'll usually have the Toyota that you're interested ready to go for a spin. Please have your driver's license ready. The Product Advisor will accompany you to demonstrate the vehicle features and benefits and to answer any questions that you may have during the drive.
You love everything about the Toyota that you took for a test drive but you'd love it even more if it had that one special thing. Take a look at the range of Toyota accessories to select the final details that will make Your First New Car EXACTLY what you're looking for.
Choose Your Perfect NEW Car
When you work with a Toyota Product Advisor to help find Your First New Car, you'll have the benefit of their knowledge and experience. They will provide you with plenty of information, answer all your questions, clarify all your concerns and when you're ready to move forward with a purchase or lease, they will be glad to help. If you need time to think about everything you've learned, that's okay, too. This is a major purchase, and a big part of your satisfaction is being comfortable with the entire experience.
The Business Office
After you've chosen your new vehicle with the help from your Product Advisor and are ready to finalize the purchase or lease, you'll visit with the Specialist in the Business Office at your dealership. They'll explain any coverage or protection plans available to you, and they're trained to ensure that you understand the purchase or lease contract. They'll also help you process your deposit or down payment and set up direct payments for your loan or lease repayment. Now you'll have everything that you need to happily drive away in your new Toyota.
You've researched. You've shopped. You've purchased or leased. Now it is time to pick up the keys and start enjoying Your First New Car. Your Toyota dealership will arrange a time and date for you to take delivery. During your visit, your dealer will help you familiarize yourself with vehicle features and benefits to ensure that you're comfortable before you drive away. They'll also be happy to give you a tour of the Service Department, so that you'll know where you'll be bringing your Toyota for regular maintenance. When all of your questions are answered, you're ready to roll!
A few weeks after you pick up your new Toyota, you may be invited to return to the dealership for what we refer to as the "Second Delivery". Once you've lived with Your First New Car for a while, you may have collected a short list of questions that you'd like answered. Perhaps you need help learning a few features - like your Bluetooth® or Display Audio system.
